Years ago, an ex-partner and I showed Close Encounters of the Third Kind (original theatrical release, which even Spielberg says is superior) on a giant inflatable screen on a clear night during the Perseids meteor shower. Slightly less than 200 turned up, and the local astronomical society had a stall there and brought giant telescopes. Using a Samsung smartphone aimed into a telescope lens, I got a pic of Saturn. A dogshit pic but clear enough to see the planet's rings.

Our best of 90+ shows.

@drahardja@sfba.social Lost to time, I'm afraid. It was taken on a work phone (stupidly, but it was top-end and so better suited to the task than my personal phone), to which access was blocked when I unexpectedly lost my job.

Encrypted handset. Adios muchachos.

Anyway, it was about as good a pic as you'd expect given the tech. It took about a dozen attempts to capture it before autofocus kicked in, which tries to focus on the nearest reflective surface, i.e. the telescope lens.
