I am worried when so many camping videos say that you can cook your meal (often meaning just boil water for a freeze-dried meal) in the vestibule of your tent.

Having gas (or spirit, or petrol) flames in the immediate vicinity of presumably highly flammable nylon or polyester tent fabric, seriously? Nope, I will never do that.

If it is raining heavily, well, I will just manage without warm food then. If one is hungry enough, even just cold-soaking a freeze-dried meal works, I hope.

@tml@mementomori.social I’m always a bit surprised at all this cooking malarky. Bring some bread, cheese, and salami and you have yourself a perfectly fine dinner.

@tml@mementomori.social while I agree with the sentiment, I wonder your thoughts on catalytic/infrared stoves where there is no flame?

(Me, I would skip a hot supper, but not morning coffee.)

@kaleb@fedi.haugenh.us I have no opinion, didn’t even know such existed. Wild guess: just infrared radiation can heat up tent fabric so that it ignites, but not as quickly as a flame?
