My toothbrush has logged me out. I have seen the future and it's stupid.

@sjvn@mastodon.social You should checkout the Nada toothbrush.

It's also 100% made in Canada by real Canadians, it also happens to work, really really well.

This is coming from someone who had a Philips Sonicare, but was really tired of paying the extortionate prices and throwing a crazy amount of plastic away.

Once your brush head is old, it just pops off, and you mail it back to them for recycling into other plastic things.

Bonus: It doesn't connect to Wi-Fi!

@sjvn@mastodon.social For the record, the Oral-B app on Android works fine without network permission. I removed its network permission on install, and it just entirely hid every UI component related to the account system and stored all data locally on-device. It still connects to the toothbrush, lets me change settings, track brushing sessions, etc.

I didn't even know Oral-B had an account system until someone else told me!

Are there no simple non-electronic toothbrushes available in the market? I have always been amused when I have seen electric toothbrushes in movies. Couldn't imagine what additional benefit I would get if my toothbrush is electric.

And it's not only stupid but I'm not so sure it saves time or makes things easier. The future is off line!

Is this real. What I mean to say is this our dystopian future or our dystopian present.

@sjvn@mastodon.social You actually donโ€™t need an account for Oral-B. You can skip it. I donโ€™t have an account and it still works fine even with offering data to Apple HealthKit. I think Phillips ones however do require registration and fill your mouth with innocent blood while they still do trade in Russia. Two reasons to avoid theirs.

@sjvn@mastodon.social Obviously it has fingerprinted the configuration of your teeth but you've developed a new cavity which means you don't fit the profile anymore. /sarcasm

If you don't brush long enough does it send you nagging messages to your email or just give you an electric shock ?

@kDelta@mastodon.ie I'm glad to hear that! We just got a pair of these toothbrushes and didn't even realize that they had an app to begin with. I was getting worried that we'd have to return them.

@stellarsarah@mastodon.world @sjvn@mastodon.social I rarely even open the app at all. It turns out you need to open it at least once every 20 brushes to keep it in sync and I just cant be bothered with it. So even my HeathKit log is near non-existent. If I do open it I only have my last 20 brushes updated.

@kDelta@mastodon.ie that's also good to know. We were just looking for basic electric toothbrushes and we got them because they were the best deal we've found. So if they also work as just regular electric toothbrushes then that's all the functionality we really need.

Glad we skipped the Phillips though.
