In the UK: holding up a sign saying: “I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action.” results in being arrested “for displaying an item in support of a proscribed organisation contrary to section 13 of the Terrorism Act.” 522 times. I am proud that half of the peaceful protesters, arrested under terrorism laws that criminalized the words "I oppose genocide; I support Palestine action" were OVER AGE 60.
When my age cohort is regularly vilified as senile, incompetent, useless old Boomers, the 60-79 age group were the largest group willing to be arrested, far out stripping the 40-49 and younger.
We must step up, especially those who are retired and have no jobs to lose. We have to step in for our children and their children and all of the vulnerable who have no voice. This is our inherited responsibility from our parents who fought fascism and genocide as the Greatest Generation.
