I could use one of these. At 46Β½" x 15Β½" x 2" (118x40x5cm) it would accommodate my largest saw plates needing citric baths.

If I could find a piece of strong plastic sheet, I’d make a shallow wood tray and line it, but I don’t trust the plastic I have on hand.

I recently scored a few pre-1955 Disston saws that need a bath, so I've been looking for the same sort of thing. I'm thinking one of these storage totes for under the bed might be a good solution. They're big enough, and the cover would help reduce evaporation and keep bugs and crap from falling in.

That would work great. You could layer the plates with wood sticks and do them all at once.

TIL that published dimensions for plastic storage totes are OUTSIDE dimensions, which include overhangs, handles, and don't account for any top-to-bottom taper. So a tote advertised as 30" long might only fit something 27" long at the inside bottom. That makes sense, I guess, but it almost tripped me up. Fortunately, I remembered to take a tape measure when I went shopping and avoided disappointment.
