Hope y'all are having fun at defcon.
one day, I'll be back. I don't think I have much worth presenting on, but honestly? In spite of defcon become such a huge commercialized event, the many villages being available is fucking awesome.
@da_667@infosec.exchange in concept I like all the villages. In practice, it seems that unless youβre a person who camps out at a particular village to work on a particular challenge, thereβs not a lot for people βcasually wandering throughβ
Like, it seems like village staff is totally swamped, or head down on their laptops, not making any effort to welcome people into their spaces.
(I understand this isnβt the most βcustomer service is importantβ crowd, but I do wonder how many villages are an excuse for a pet project vs. actually trying to educate)
(I also am told that the vibe was different pre-LVCC, but this is all the experience I got)

@da_667@infosec.exchange never been. I didnβt like the DefCon is cancelled joke, I thought it was cruel to first timers. I was told I was stupid for that opinion. I finally bought tickets to go to DCBH. It was 2020. Yep, they can choke on their in group horseshit.
I have strong feelings. I take solace that those pompous asses have to look for new jobs every 2-3 years because layoffs.
it wasn't long ago, that the CFP committee was telling me "Defcon isn't a blue con." And all I can think of is how blue team village, malware villeage, and packet capture village are all major attractions now. Anyways, blow me, Jericho.
@0x00string@infosec.exchange rsac, but not headlined by concentration camp enjoyers.
@da_667@infosec.exchange you should check out SaintCon. Good set of talks and presenters and a few great blue team/teaching events.
Plus, not Vegas In August.
@jthoel@infosec.exchange @da_667@infosec.exchange
Vegas is one of about 20 reasons I don't defcon any more
Vegas in August is two of them
