oh god the heart in my profile bio (https://gaysex.cloud/@sodiboo) looks absolutely horrible from a remote instance (https://sk.fedi.gay/@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud)
Who was going to tell me that the emoji gets bitcrushed to a horror????
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud It looks fine on icedoatmilk.coffee. Sharkey superiority??
@celestiallavendar@icedoatmilk.coffee No. Not Sharkey superiority. This definitely affects Sharkey. It doesn't at all look fine on your instance.
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud I dunno, I think it looks fine. I'm not viewing your bio on an hdr 4K tv or anything
@celestiallavendar@icedoatmilk.coffee did you look at it from my instance though?? how that heart is supposed to look?? I don't think it looks fine at all, even in this screen recording.
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud I mean, maybe it's a lil compressed? Idk, when I first looked at it I was like
rainbow heart. I wasn't really thinking about compression artifacts.
Now you've got me self conscious about my custom dahlia emojis
@celestiallavendar@icedoatmilk.coffee hm. can you x4 that and let's see how it looks on remote vs local?
at emoji scale, the compression really doesn't matter. so don't be too self conscious about those emoji! keep using them! but still, let's experiment with an x4. or even, $[x3 $[x3 :Dahlia-rainbow:]]
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud

We'll see if the solid color shows any compression issues better. I don't think I've had any use for an emoji this big yet tbh. So if there is some kind of issue arising, I guess it's not that surprising.
@celestiallavendar@icedoatmilk.coffee hm. they actually seem okay to me. I can't obviously tell a difference. but this is maybe because they are already fairly noisy, so a little bit of added noise is less noticeable?
what if you $[rainbow ] them? does that maybe make it way more obvious, in the same way mine is obvious when rainbowed?
also, the middle has a lot of detail. let's compare that. do something like $[scale.x=5,y=5 $[crop.top=40,bottom=40,left=40,right=40 : Dahlia-rainbow:]], and maybe x4 and rainbow it as well. let's compare just the middle. here's that transform on my emoji:
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud Calling my emojis noisy smh

Your clipout looks fine on my instance, I don't see any compression or noise on it at all at that scale.
@celestiallavendar@icedoatmilk.coffee
Calling my emojis noisy smh
they are though!! in the context of compression, "noisy" just means "having a lot of detail". your dahlia is clearly more intricate than my
. there is simply more detail; more noise.
@sodiboo@gaysex.cloud Yeah the rainbow dahlia was made as a full sized piece, so it is a bit squished at emoji size. The other solid color dahlias are designed at emoji size, so I imagine they probably look worse blown up but better small.
