A lot of noise in Drupal is large agencies chasing after big clients, which means following the latest trends in the echo chamber that is LinkedIn. At its core, Drupal still is great at organizing websites with structured data.*
My hope is that this will turn out to be like Headless Drupal: the "latest and greatest" must-have technology to bring in new clients, but is 100% not required for a good website.
Yes, it will sap developer time from more useful work, but at least they're not forcing you to use it.
