There is ample folkloric precedent for the rock-throwing abilities of #DnD giants.
In fact, the giants of D&D were toned down when compared to their folkloric counterparts, who regularly threw rocks at targets many miles distant - although their aim tended to suck, which is why Northern Germany has so many glacial erratic boulders scattered around the countryside.
