Thanks for the question. 93% of wildfires in Canada are caused by lightning strikes. Any meaningful demand for the country to curb wildfires logically amounts to a demand to reduce lightning strikes.

There are other ways to reduce wildfires, and many of these have been implemented or are being implemented now. But realistically you are not going to reduce the overall frequency and extent of wildfires in Canada to a meaningful degree in the face of rapidly increasing climate heating and lightning frequency affecting a forest area of 3.69 million sq km (

Radically ending further climate heating with severe controls on fossil fuel use especially is fervently opposed by the US Republican Party, which claims that climate change is a hoax. And these are all Republican senators demanding action from Canada.
