I totally forgot posting photos from our evening ride!
So Jeff bought himself an eeb, a Levo SL, less power, less battery, less weight. I took my commuter eeb, and off we went. #SomewhatMTB #EveningRide #eBike

@jexner@tooting.ch my first visit to Basel was October 2023. This last visit in June I was struck by the number of e-bikes. Seems exponentially higher in just 18 months. Those things arenβt cheap either.
@garymcm@mastodon.social They are not, but this is Switzerland. There have always been 50somethings on bikes that cost more than I ever paid for a car.
And you're right, the number of eebs is unreal.
@jexner@tooting.ch um, guilty as charged.
@garymcm@mastodon.social π
Which one? '50somethings', 'bikes that cost more than...', or 'eeb'?
@jexner@tooting.ch 50s and bike price. Not eeb. π
but honestly cycling is everything to me, so I can justify it. I want to write something really
Iβve nothing against e-bikes, btw, and have been interested in one for winter riding here in deeper snow. I have a fat bike but once you get above four or 5 cm of snow itβs kind of useless.
@garymcm@mastodon.social I remember being stuck in 10cm snow here in winter, yes.
@jexner@tooting.ch that looks so good though!!
@garymcm@mastodon.social That was about 500m from my place, one surprising morning. I got stuck twice on like a 5km ride :-)
@jexner@tooting.ch hereβs a picture of my fat bike. Itβs about 11 years old and was one of the early fat bikes. Itβs made of steel and the tires are not quite as wide as modern fat bikes. I always loved the first light snowfall because it handled it really well, but Iβve had to walk it out a few times like you. This bike would make a pretty decent touring bike since itβs loaded with mount points. Even though I donβt use it nowadays, Iβll keep it for that day!
@garymcm@mastodon.social Oh, nice, a Pugsley!
80mm rims, I guess? "Rolling Darryl"?
If you put a shorter stem, that thing is more than capable of descending some pretty dicey stuff.
@jexner@tooting.ch those tires are Dillingers with studs. Pretty good, but Iβve lost a lot of studs which is a bit disappointing. They still have good traction on the occasional ice but not like Nokians.
@garymcm@mastodon.social On my MTBs, I have tested tons of tyres, but on the fattie, I got Surly Bud and Lou, and never looked back.
No traction on ice (to be expected, no studs), but otherwise rock solid in everything I have ever thrown at them.
