I was in my fifties when I finally realized that the law that you must not pass a school bus with its red lights flashing is because kids donβt always look before crossing the street.*
* No kids were harmed by my realization of this

@Red_Shirt_no2@c.im @fesshole@mastodon.social The two cities I have lived in have bylaws that state no school bus shall use those flashing lights within city limits unless it is on a road with a speed limit above xyz km/h
I'm like ... ok, that's odd.
I recall general assembly days in elementary and middle school (in a small town) where we had to watch bus safety videos that showed all the ways kids can get squished by other cars or the bus itself.
