I still like Coats And Clark too. They are easier to find in the US. Particularly when you are looking for a specialty item like button thread, heavy duty or jeans threads.

@EugestShirley@m.ai6yr.org @kaipyroami@infosec.exchange So random question... are these giant spools usable on a machine? Obviously, can put them on my home made thread stand, but curious about the 1000-yard spools. (seriously considering shelling out for one of these Gutterman collections of threads and be done with it LOL....$50 or $100 and probably never have to buy thread again)

I buy thread as I need it. But then, I also have a wide collection of random colors going back to my my grandmother.
Skip the tempting collection of every color. When will you need chartreuse or lilac?

Start by buying multiple spools of basic colors.
Black
White
Navy
Gray
Beige
Tan
Brown
Muted green β€” sage, olive, army
Red
For you, safety yellow and orange might be a basic.

A close color match is good enough. An exact match is needed only if you are making stitches seen from the outside. Top-stitching, tacking, making buttonholes or sewing on buttons.

Regular sewing thread comes in different size spools too. Buy the larger of the spools of your type if they sell them where you shop.

@EugestShirley@m.ai6yr.org @kaipyroami@infosec.exchange Thanks! I am down to only a tiny amount of white and black, so I am going to order for sure so I don't have to do one or two piece orders every time I sew something. I know I need tan (for pants repair)... appreciate the list!

What gets sewn the most? Pants repairs, pocket repairs, bag repairs. Buttons, snaps, hooks, straps.

@EugestShirley@m.ai6yr.org @ai6yr@m.ai6yr.org I have about 15 different types of gold thread to match that of the jeans that I have repaired.
