@FinalGirl@blackqueer.life my MIL gets pretty upset when I wear femme clothes like I'm trying to force femininity back into the box she worked so hard to escape from. And my mom has more than a couple times "warned" me that I might not understand how others view me in that outfit. As if I haven't been swimming in modern gender theory for a few decades myself and as the person I am have a pretty hyper aware sense of how others are seeing me and maybe I'm deliberately choosing my dress for not just myself but because I'm visible to others as well.

@storybead@chaosfem.tw exactly this. It’s so fucking frustrating. And a goddamn generation of Black and Latina feminists called that shit out like “Bitch you think we ain’t aware of people judging us? Step the fuck off.”

But they didn’t read anything beyond “burn your bra.”

@FinalGirl@blackqueer.life @storybead@chaosfem.tw The idea that choosing an expression is forcing anything on anyone is bonkers. And even worse: these incurious bigots don't even bother questioning why dressing in "gender neutral" styles is basically wearing masculine styles as if they are the default....almost like the feminine was a second sex...I think someone maybe should write a feminist book about that... 😡😡

@JoscelynTransient@chaosfem.tw @FinalGirl@blackqueer.life the idea that choosing an expression is forcing anything on anyone else is kind of one of the underpinnings of second wave. I mean, more precisely, rejecting an expression would somehow force something on everyone, but pot-ay-to/pot-ah-to.

@storybead@chaosfem.tw @FinalGirl@blackqueer.life Ugh, yeah. It's the same kind of nonsense with "feminists" telling hijabis they need to take off their headscarfs to be free and that's the primary oppression they face. Can we just stop policing women's bodies and doing the work of the patriarchy for them? Please?
