As much as I loathe
#Putin and everything he stands for, I cannot exactly blame #India for that.

I mean, the "Western World" has only ever adhered to "ethical standards" in their international business deals when it was convenient for them.

@juergen_hubert@mementomori.social that may be so, but if India wants to play "everyone for himself", so can we. And if the US, the EU and the UK hits India with sanctions simultaneously, Modi will realize buying Russian oil was a mistake.

...I thought we had already been doing that?

@juergen_hubert@mementomori.social the US just begun yesterday presenting 50 percent tariffs on India. So far, no response from UK, EU.

Actually EU just sanctioned a Refinery in India that was jointly owned by Indian and Russian groups.

The story is they were already looking to exit the partnership, but after the sanctions hit, they can't find a buyer willing to cross the sanctions.

Also, bullying Modi will get no one nowhere. His base will eat him alive if he bows down to the Western powers. You'll understand, colonialism and all.

While I am not much of a fan of Modi either, that's entirely understandable as well.

Europe should stop assuming they can just dictate terms to the rest of the world and assume they follow. We need to actually bring something to the table in order to get
#India to cooperate.
