Doing a laptop repair, and I think the fault is a broken trace to the power jack.

I don't think I can repair a trace, but I can solder in a jumper wire if I can figure out where the 19V input is supposed to get to. (The earth connections all test fine.)

Unfortunately I don't know where that 19V is supposed to go. The battery connector is very accessible, but I don't know if the battery takes raw 19V...

Suggestions and advice welcome

@pjf@cloudisland.nz likely near the barrel jack. Pictures and model information would be useful. There will be filtering and voltage regulator very close to the jack usually

@xssfox@cloudisland.nz @pjf@cloudisland.nz very good chance it's meant to go to a fuse or inductor pretty nearby and those will be big enough that soldering shouldn't be too hard

@LapTop006@aus.social @xssfox@cloudisland.nz : First picture is my motherboard, the power jack is in the bottom right.

Second is a high res picture from NotebookCheck of the same motherboard.

There's not much on this side of the board near the jack, although plenty of capacitors further north which may indicate something.

I might have to remove the board and look at the other side to see if I can spot anything useful.

@pjf@cloudisland.nz @LapTop006@aus.social might want to meter here. This is probably a fuse?

@xssfox@cloudisland.nz @pjf@cloudisland.nz @LapTop006@aus.social came here to write that. The β€œT” is a current rating code for a self resetting poly fuse. That’s likely the next (only?) step for power coming in from the jack. It might be busted, is there electrical conductivity across it?

@xssfox@cloudisland.nz @LapTop006@aus.social : Thank you!! I appreciate you immensely, and will give that a try once I'm no longer stuck under a cat.
