Remember that the Apple II debuted the same year as Pam Postema.
She was a professional umpire with the respect of fans and players alike.
After a lot of talk by MLB, the glass ceiling stopped her cold.
Now that computers are helping the men do their jobs, they are reportedly going to let one woman call a game.
Never forget that MLB trusted computers before they trusted human beings.
Jen Pawol is a professional and very good at the job.
So was Pam Postema.

@YakyuNightOwl@mastodon.world I remember her. I thought she would certainly make it to MLB, but no.
@cbtryon@mastodon.world She worked games in the PCL when I watched the Beavers as a kid. I was almost positive she was going to be the first. There were some creeping doubts tho.
The brilliant Ann Schatz filed these reports during those hopeful days.

@YakyuNightOwl@mastodon.world We were each probably at a few of the same Beavers games.
@cbtryon@mastodon.world I bet we were both in Civic Stadium at the same time.
We had "Knot Hole Club" season tickets to the bleachers. It was like $12 each for the whole season. Of course, our parents still had to pay a dollar a piece to sit with us.
Remember the night when Postema ejected the bat boy? She was right.
@YakyuNightOwl@mastodon.world I used to sit in the bleachers a lot, but I was probably old enough to be one of the parents.
I missed the bat boy ejection.
I did see Bernard Brito blast a home run way out of the stadium.
@cbtryon@mastodon.world I bet we both saw that tater disappear over the back wall.
Didn't the team pay for a windshield at the dealership across the street after someone hit a moonshot?
@YakyuNightOwl@mastodon.world Yep, I think so.
