USpol, misuse of antidiscrimination laws

I find myself noodling on the fact that queer Abolitionists warned about hate crime and anti-discrimination legislation being misused someday back when the Neoliberal wing seized the Democratic Party and LGBTQ+ organizations.

Up until now, it seemed a bit like a false alarm, and useful to have these laws. After all, if we’re going to have a coercive government, it might as well be one that encodes against discrimination and provides at least some guardrails and tools against the worst abuses. But now we’re here, with the Trump admin purposefully misusing gender anti-discrimination legislation to try to enact segregation against trans people or other forms of discrimination and state violence against us. Pam Bondi and friends are also inverting laws about anti-discrimination based upon race to say they should be used to protect white people from “reverse racism” or advising organizations that are meant to serve women that it would be discrimination against men if they are not included.

Basically, the worst case scenario is playing out. It’s ridiculous we are here and it makes me wonder whether, if we didn’t have these laws, would that have reduced the tools they had to do harm to us or made it easier anyway? Definitely reminds me that the world we build towards should be one that does not put this kind of power in any individual’s hands.
