"I'm rubbish with Excel" is code for "I'm rubbish at my entire job". You don't hear carpenters saying they're rubbish with saws. You don't hear surgeons saying they're rubbish with scalpels. If you work in an I.T. company then fucking well learn to use the tools for your job.

Nonsense. I'm an experienced software developer. I think I've had to use Excel once in the last two years, and that was just to read a workbook that someone else had written.

@anon_opin@mastodon.social This would be a typical list of techs and tools I’d use in a month: C#, Python, C++, bash, TeamCity, Octopus, Kubernates, Docker, Confluence, Putty, ssh, rsync, gnu make, Tidal, Oracle SQL, MSSQL…and Excel. Bring fluent in all those isn’t comparable to couple of saws, a hammer and a bunch of nails.

@anon_opin@mastodon.social Excel is shit. If you manage your entire office just using Excel, you've got worse things to worry than someone not fully knowing how to use it.

(Also, there are people that work on an office and don't need to touch that steaming pile of garbage.)
