I do fieldwork in some very remote places that have no mobile phone reception and are many hours from civilization. I’ve found this device to be super useful. It will send regular updates of your location via Iridium to a website that others can access and you could also text with it.

Not sure who I passed it along to, but I had a similar device when I was doing a lot of
#hiking and #canoeing in remote locations. One also has to pay an annual subscription in order to actually send out updates. No back-and-forth communication, but some way to locate your body, as I used to say.
