After canning freezer jam on Monday, I needed more jars (and pectin), and I still wanted to get some #fermentation done. Luckily, @whoosh@techhub.social was willing to do a #BodyDouble work session today, so she shredded unnecessary documents, while I shredded veggies to make #kimchi and #sauerkraut. I added jalapeรฑo peppers and an onion to the sauerkraut, so I'm curious about how it will turn out. I didn't brine the cabbage for long to make the kimchi, but I still hope to make fermented pickles with that brine.
Summer joy: Persods and pow wow camping trip wound up with no meteor viewing (too cloudy) and I came on day 2 because of a wicked rain and hail storm en route. Still , the pow wow (Samson Cree Nation) was magnificent, and the time hanging out outdoors was badly needed. Stopped at HMart for kimchi supplies on the way home and they had massive vases of blueberries for only $10 CAD. Jam has been made. Really delicious jam, with the addition of a frozen lemon.
It's been a pretty cool and damp summer this year, and I'm happy to have that after several hot and smoky summers. Yesterday, my friend and I investigated the trail adjacent to Hawrelak Park, in hopes of seeing what progress has been made on the park's updates. We couldn't see much, but the work is supposed to be done by the end of the year. I got stung by a wasp on our way into a nearby cafรฉ. It still hurts a lot. Today was a sew day at a shop in town, so I brought a pair of gently used jeans I'd bought, and I made it into this tote bag. It was a fun make. I want to make one with a zippered top. to make it a bit more versatile. I've organized a camping weekend for the Perseids Meteor Showers, and a pow wow at a nearby First Nation. However, it rained torrentially this afternoon, and again on my way down, so I've left my group unattended. They are apparently enjoying a lovely evening at the campground without me. I'll head down early in the morning. #sewing #YEG
