Linkedin seems to be sending me a lot more notifications via email lately. I've never used the app, as LinkedIn likes to remind you constantly that they can harvest your data way more effectively if you use the app. IDK if they changed something or I did somehow, but I set my profile to private mode a while back mainly because I was getting inundated with connection requests. Now I'm suddenly getting the connection request emails. Is this happening to any other LI users here?
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange deleted my actual account last year then created a fake account. I get emails daily on suggest connections. Even a few claimed job offers which seems funny as my fake account doesn't have any job skills listed.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange I see a general increase in activity, unwanted connection requests (many that I suspect are fake), sponsored posts with political agendas, as well as, lots of LinkedIn emails trying to get me to log into the platform.
It seems to parallel the 'evolution' of Facebook.
I doubt it has to do with your switching your profile status.
@briankrebs@infosec.exchange LI periodically invents new categories of things to email me about, enabled. I try to find them all, turn them all off, and turn off some other things as well to reduce engagement. I occasionally send LI a snotty feedback email to explain how greedy marketing has backfired AGAIN, never mind breaking GDPR and ethics. (Just had a similar run-in with Patreon with new unsolicited emails that could not be turned off contrary to the claim in them...)
@DamonHD@mastodon.social @briankrebs@infosec.exchange I think this is it. It’s a tactic I am seeing more and more as businesses are starting to crank up marketing due to lost revenues or expected lost revenues.
I’m even getting these now after shopping at a store with a loyalty card.
I also got a text message from CVS yesterday to tell me the Rite Aid in my neighborhood closed. I don’t even go to Rite Aid!
