@codinghorror@infosec.exchange @mainframed767@infosec.exchange the scientist who discovered the first process for making Insulin didn't want to "own it", he wasn't worried about people "stealing it". he gave it away to the betterment of humanity on the whole.
these types of contributions are extensive in our history. the entire concept of ownership of ideas is garbage thinking, it's an attempt for dividends on cognitive function, it's selfishness.
I never wanted a patent for anything important that I worked on, created, contributed to. that's Open Source. that's BSD license. I keep hearing self important people complain about this concept of stolen ideas. it's bullshit. give back. life and existence is a group effort and we are not unique individual snowflakes who deserve attention for momentary brain waves.
the money comes from providing a service, from the action, not from the idea. that's what I've built my career on, and it's most often been a very positive experience.
