Why I live where I live (the shittiest, but also most immigrant neighborhood in SF, the one that’s in YouTube in all of your ‘San Francisco is a hell hole videos): I go downstairs to get a bag of rice. There are many brands I want. There are large bulbs of banana flowers in the grocery store. The auntie gives me a free bag, speaks my native language, asks about my mother and tells me about her cousin’s immigration woes. I walk home. I stop at a noodle shop to say hello. An old lady who can no longer hear, looks into her bag and gives me a snack. I give her a can of something that I just got from the store. Her daughter tells me where everybody has been for their vacation. I tell them about my immigration success, and they give me more snacks.
All of this happens within approximately 250 ft from my home.
