Another halfway decent article ruined by #BadEnglish to produce #BadJournalism.

"More than Β£2.7m was spent meeting requests for the pictures and while take-up was patchy, more than 20,000 images of Charles in a medal-laden Royal Navy uniform were sent out – a 31% hit rate."

"The problem is that the people behind Palestine Action are not particularly terrifying. They do not throw political opponents or homosexuals off tall buildings, like Hamas. They do not steal food aid. They do not take hostages, or fly in to peaceful farms and slaughter civilians. The worst thing they've done, so far, is scoot around RAF Brize Norton and damage two refuelling planes with paint and crowbars."

"The net effect is a vacuum that bad actors are left to fill with bigotry and misinformation, conflating asylum, migration and criminality to falsely portray asylum seekers – many of whom will be victims of abuse and torture themselves – as a potential danger to the British people. Just look to Warwickshire, where the leader of the Reform-led county council is accusing police of a β€œcover up” over the immigration status of two men charged with the alleged rape of a local child (police vehemently deny that). The vacuum always gets filled: on Saturday, the far right marched outside council offices in Nuneaton, with crowds shouting officers were β€œprotecting paedophiles”."

Well done that judge!

#Bristol City was admonished by the ICO over its tardy processing of FoI requests.

It had the temerity to appeal.

The judge wasn't impressed.

"Many members of the public are failing to understand a key point: if they are coming for retired vicars and doctors and ex-servicemen and blind men in wheelchairs and people who've never been in trouble their entire lives, they can come for literally anyone. You might think you are safe because you are quiet on this issue, but the moment you say something that upsets the government, they can find a way to treat you as a criminal or a terrorist. This is what authoritarians do."

"Yesterday police made twice the number of counter-terrorism arrests than they did in all of 2023 and one-fifth of those arrested were over 70.

One police officer was wearing a hat that suggested he came from a Welsh police force. Remember this when police say they can't send any officers out after you've been burgled. Police are dealing with the real criminals now, and the real criminals include quakers."

A message for illiterate journalists caught up in the latest fad.

Use advocate as a verb and no 'for' is needed after verb.

Use it as a noun and the for is required.

Those 'patriots' protesting about immigration to the UK are probably proud of the British Empire without realising that the British poking their noses into other parts of the world were in large part responsible for conflicts that arose when the Brits left.
