I’m building a little wooden boat. The outer shell is plywood. I covered the plywood with a thin layer of clear epoxy so as to hopefully last longer and be more watertight.

Now I want to paint it.

Do I need to use primer? Or does the layer of epoxy work as a primer? Thanks in advance, folks

Expectation: Pursuit of knowledge, cultivation & perfection of human beings.

Reality: Workers creepin on students, the admins constantly betraying rather than supporting student activists, no one cares about research except to publish more to make their career look good.

My entire life until I was in college, I figured I would go to grad school and become a professor.

But professors (with a few exceptions) are some of the most disappointing and small minded people I've ever met.

If these campuses had been supporting their student activists with regards to the struggle for Palestinian liberation, they would have a strong core of people ready to fight American fascism right now.

Unfortunately, the adults who those activists should have been able to rely on for advice and support decided to betray them & support a genocide.

Now that fascism is coming for the profs jobs, there are no activists to defend them. The profs needed the activists more than vice versa.

Academia has consistently been one of the most disappointing parts of American society.

I was raised by academics and always had a lot of respect for them growing up. That lasted until I got to college myself and realized that most professors are major assholes who are more interested in fucking their students + stealing their research than anything else.

Now universities are not just surrendering to the fascist admin, but actually forking over a bunch of cash as well. Totally in-character.

LA doesn't have a "large minority population." White people are not a majority in LA. I tire of these linguistic games

People on fedi when you post something that goes against the circlejerk: "How dare you make me think about this issue that has been settled in my head for me by influencers?"

Like, one reason we don't see more progressive candidates at the local level, especially in smaller towns... is the ones who do stand for elections get a lot of realistic death threats from heavily-armed fascists.

These candidates get essentially zero support from the Democratic Party or local law enforcement. So, many of them drop out, because of the credible death threats. What would you do?

Do those folks have freedom of speech?

Like, I'm not even exaggerating a little bit here. This has happened to multiple people I know personally. In small-town, rural Washington, and right here in Seattle.

These people were standing for elections as progressive members of the Democratic Party. Local chuds threatened to murder them, escalating to physical intimidation outside their homes.

The Democratic Party offered to get them Ring cameras lmao.

The rise of fascism in the USA has been primarily enabled by multiple generations of neo-nazi organizers infiltrating police departments all across the country.

This, combined with the extralegal powers granted to police by the court system essentially delivered liberal democratic society to the fascists on a platter.

The voting shit just doesn't matter that much if the police & courts are compromised at the highest levels.

Just read: "Unfettered free speech led to the rise of fascism in America."

I can see how folks got there. But. This is inaccurate.

Unfettered free speech would be a better situation than what we actually experienced. What we actually experienced was the police & courts consistently preferring & protecting the speech of fascists over everyone else's... for decades.

Anyone who has been to a nazi protest in the USA has seen lines of riot cops protecting them. Not every fringe group gets that.
