A small group of us (Note: really, really small) are in early discussions on how to encourage our government - individual politicians & federal, provincial, and municipal departments - to move their social media presence to Mastodon. This would involve an awareness campaign targeting politicians, party HQs, and departments/agencies.
We are asking for input from admins to help us create a future state vision for this project, and provide us with advice or ideas on how to bring it to a reality. I will set up a web call within the next 3 weeks and hopefully you can participate. We are not asking you to contribute beyond input. Please DM me and I will add you to the invitees.

Happy International Left Handed Day to all those afflicted, including my oldest daughter. Just over 10% of people are left-handed, and only 5% to 6% for women. Some studies have reported that rightys have higher IQs than lefties. Hey, it's just science people, don't shoot the messenger. Things have improved for left-handers, and rarely are they seen as evil because of how they write. The word sinister comes from the Latin word for left-handed.
My daughter being a southpaw was a huge advantage during her competitive softball years. As one of only 2 left-handed pitchers in a league of 1,200 girls, she was very effective league play and in travel tournaments despite being slower than average. She did have a wicked curve that broke in sharply on right-handed batters.

Recent news may have some of you panicking with the announcement that AOL Dial Up Services will officially shut down on September 30th of this year. Yikes! But, the Canadian government has your backup plan as they attempt to provide high-speed internet services to 100% of Canadians by 2030. Current estimates put access at 94.5%, and the next target is 98% by the end of 2026.
I kinda miss the phone couplers, bragging about the size of my "Baud Rate," and the beep booping screeching announcement of going online. OK.... not really.

Harley was trying to go lay in her bed in the bedroom this morning - you can see it in the top left corner of the photo. Unfortunately, she was wary of Casper lying in wait in the laundry basket. You can see his white ears sticking out the top of the basket. Harley chose to avoid getting pounced on if she went by and laid down out of reach.

Completed the sideboard last night. Took me approximately 6 hours spread over 2 days, but like 17th century furniture craftsmen, I chose patience over expediency. The 5 moving boxes, marked "dining room, remain unpacked and my wife has told me that updates on that task are not necessary. They are stacked where our Christmas tree is planned to be set up, so we have time.

Today is Mountain Day in Japan, but Canadians have some pretty impressive mounds of rock as well. Did you know that Canada has the oldest mountain range in North America? At over 4 billion years old, the Torngat Mountains has seen some things. This mountain range, 300km long and covering 30,000 square km, is located on the Labrador Peninsula at the northern tip of Newfoundland and Labrador and eastern Quebec. Torngat National Park is open year round, but due to its remote location, it only gets 600-ish visitors annually. Visitors must be accompanied by armed Inuit escorts because polar bears are prevalent on the rocky shores. Getting eaten by a polar bear is likely too much excitement for a camping trip.

With another #HeatWave hitting most of Canada this week, my goto combat plan is - Eat #IceCream. Most Canadians obviously have the same strategy as we collectively ate over $840m of tasty frozen concoctions last year. Chocolate is the most popular flavor, but I'm more of a butterscotch guy. I think a #MercerMemories video could get you motivated to get out and restock your freezer.
