A little batch of warm buns just out of the oven.

Just a simple seat-of-the-pants yeast batch, with an enriched dough which approaches brioche territory.

Sitting by a nice roaring fire, as one does on such a day as this. We don't have many fires, maybe four to six a year? About 3 logs per.

Doing a rough in-my-head calculation regarding GHG numbers, focusing on CO2, I see burning a litre of gasoline in a car contributes about 2.2kg of CO2. Burning a 1.5kg log contributes about the same.

My car gets about 20km per L of fuel (hwy), which was half my commute before I became a WFH consultant type. So I used to drive about two logs a day…

So I can rationalize a bit that my annual fireplace use is about 9 days of my old commute - say two work weeks. So I've still done reasonable okay reducing my carbon footprint overall.

Could certainly be worse if we heated with wood.

That doesn't address particulate contributions at all. Good thing fires in the summer are unappealing when air quality is typically worst.

Starting a bit of cranberry sauce now so we can forget it in the fridge tomorrow during supper.

A saucepan on the stove contains red cranberries, orange peel and some sugar, just before it gets heated up for sauce making.

Robocall from Hydro Ottawa indicates we get a power outage in mid January, which should be interesting. Just in the morning, but we'll certainly feel that.

I guess we'll be loading up the fireplace. Maybe we should get some marshmallows.

Finished my challah-bread fabrication, which baked up while we had supper.

It's been a couple of years since my last, my Mastodon record keeping tells me. (I'll boost the old ones from a few years ago in a sec)

I should make this more often just to keep in practice. I probably could've proofed these slightly longer. One takes a bit of a left hook there. lol

Two braided challah loaves are brown with light inner parts of the braid, and a sprinkle of poppyseed over them. Intending to give one to friends, so I guess the slightly unkempt one is to be destroyed at home with my chompers.
