Noticed the shops are mostly sold out of wall calendars. Only ones left I don't want for my kitchen. (I get all the kittens & puppies I need through Mastodon).

Here's an easy solution for #reuse of last year's calendar!

Layout works out well this year too, if you like having the weekend at the end of the week.

A wall calendar is shown and I've crossed out the days of the week and just written them back in, aligned with this year's day numbers. It shifted the week so that Saturday and Sunday are at the end of the week now.

Transit fares in Ottawa have gone up? Thoughtful progressive leadership would reduce them to a nominal price or better–free.

It would have to come from the provincial gov, but those inept guys hoard our tax money to throw at beer and car incentives before the elections, and lining their friends' pockets the rest of the time.

A small pretty floral arrangement features a variety of shapes and colours in the green, red, blue, and white space. It's a bit spikey and a little alien looking.

My day's #sourdough loaves are finished. This batch felt very good.

As I don't measure stuff, nor really have a plan as I start, I'm never sure what I'll end up with; there's always some variety in what comes out.

Eager to taste these!

The #sourdough starter I started on the journey to bread is looking happy. Just got it filled into some dough here. Maybe loaves tonight.

A bubbly bowl of starter shows it's stickiness as a cover is lifted off of it. Looks very gooey indeed.

Watching a YT on the winter of 1963 in UK - what a crazy year. Hadn't heard of that incident, but the weather in January turned arctic in a big way.

Amazing hardship, and collapse of all infrastructure in a place unprepared for it.

Super cold out today, as Jan1 should be, but also sunny! And a fresh layer of snow.

We get this funny thing where the sun can shine straight through a high window in our house and out the front onto the driveway. Would be fun to shine on a little planter there, but it doesn't happen in summertime, so not much point. Could illuminate some ice flowers perhaps.

Slightly more elaborate food detail than usual

Menu for tonight:

Cream cheese and dill parcels wrapped in smoked salmon with a tiny single malt shot.

Steak frites, with oven roasted potatoes w herbs and olives oil rather than deep fried frites. Accompanied with sides of green beans and spinach.

Pears poached in red wine with vanilla and cinnamon, with a dollop of salted caramel ice cream.

Tasty and elaborate, but mostly low effort to pull together. Relaxing a bit before making the pears.
