#100daysofpractice
Iβm going to be working on keyboard skills. Instead of focusing on repertoire or finger technique, although I will do some of that too, I want to focus on skills like improvisation, transposition, harmonization, etc. I found a book that I wanted to work with and learn from before and didnβt get very farβImprovising Fugue: A Method for Keyboard Artists by John J. Mortensenβand played around with learning the Rule of the Octave. I also played around with some free improvisation, sight read a couple of hymns, and played a bunch of I ii6/5 V I progressions through all the major and minor keys.
Day 1 of #100daysofpractice
I need to learn how to stop letting the shame of not accomplishing things in the past get in the way of accomplishing things in the future.
Bonus: disconnect accomplishments or lack thereof from general happiness, wellbeing, and assessment of self-worth
Greetings! For my first mastodon post I am going to say that I am not quite sure what I am doing here . . .
For an #introduction I am working on a PhD in music theory with a specialization in music cognition at the University of Western Ontario. I'm in the process of writing up a dissertation proposal, and will be doing experiments investigating auditory scene analysis (aka the cocktail party phenomenon). I'm also neurodivergent (autism and ADHD). I'm not sure if I should be adding more of these # things so I'm just going to finish this here.
@Erased_Citizen@cupoftea.social
True β¦ I was wondering if somebody would notice that π
I just made the post and closed it again, though! I didnβt look at my notifications β¦
@Erased_Citizen@cupoftea.social Oh I had tagged you in it. Oops! π€£
@Erased_Citizen@cupoftea.social okay, I'm muting the fediverse for an hour so I don't let that possibility become a reality
@Erased_Citizen@cupoftea.social this experiment is β¦ working? I didnβt break anything? π€

@Erased_Citizen@cupoftea.social then I could spend my whole afternoon keeping up with the fedi and I could never do my work!

Aha! There is piano availability for the next hour. This is great excuse to procrastinate experiment, right?!? (Piano will be 'unavailable' after that because of zoom meetings/work happening within hearing distance of the piano)
I've practiced piano, eaten lunch, drunk tea, scrolled through my fediverse home feed . . . now I'm running out of excuses for procrastination.
Also, for the second day in a row now I've forgotten to bring my proper headphones with me . . . oops.

I added a code component to my experiment, and now I'm procrastinating testing it to see if it worked or if I broke something. Hence this post. Time to make tea.
