I think one of the nicest things someone on #Mastodon said to me was, "I usually look at a person's feed to see if I should follow them. I looked at yours & scrolled 40 posts and can't see a common topic in any of them so I decided to follow you"
Lol, this is the best way to write an #introduction for myself on Masto - Hi, I'm Liz, I promise you if you follow me you'll get completely RANDO thoughts from non-connecting topics from me all day.
How I know I'm an extrovert:
Watching a CDrama on a weekend, intending to binge at least 5 episodes, only by the 2nd episode I think: OMG I NEED TO GO OUTSIDE AND BE WITH PEOPLE.
That's me on a daily basis. lol
Also, the moment I attend an event, I get a huge energy boost and feel like LIFE IS GRAND.
I am the opposite if I spend a day alone in my apartment lol
Currently indulging myself by reading about the enshittification of Substack lol.
It's sad, but predictable, how if you bring social media dynamics to a once-cosy platform of writers, things go to hell.
A well-known writer I follow who has 39k followers wrote about how things have drastically changed the last few months. Journalists, celebrities are now dominating the platform and small fry writers are no longer seen.
For me, I've seen an uptick of outrage content and reply guys and debate bros. It's sad how the moment one writes a narrative that the mob doesn't agree with, they pile on you.
This is the opposite of what Substack stood for in the past.
I will still use Substack, because I'm a practical person nor do I choose platforms based on its morality or ideals, but how it serves me. But it's sad because I remember how it was before the bigwigs tried to change it to the next Twitter.
However, this is a very good reminder for me to double, triple down on my website and remember NOT to "build a presence" and do more digital sharecropping than necessary on Substack.

Okay, I deleted the #Substack app from my phone and tablet. I have to admit that I have no control. I have zero control stopping myself from looking at the FYP feed. I have zero control at being annoyed by hot takes. And I definitely have zero control sometimes at typing back at these hot takes. So for the safety of everybody, including myself, I have deleted the apps and I hope it'll be permanent.
I still remember the day I signed up for Substack. This was way before Notes was a thing, way before they thought they could turn their newsletter delivery platform into social media. I knew that #enshittification was on its way, but I'm a practical girl - I prefer to think of them as tools rather than platforms that need to be ideologically aligned with me.
But god, you know, the amount of toxicity that has increased thanks to Notes is appalling. I'm trying to remember how people used to discover each other. I think we discovered each other through organic recommendations. I often found people through Substack's community posts where people just hung out and talked. I miss those forums. I used to click on people who sounded interesting and, well, sane.
But now with these social media dynamics, you get exposed to people you don't want to get exposed to. And your content gets exposed to people you don't want to get exposed to. Before Notes, discovery was a little bit safer and more controlled. Your newsletter was often recommended by like-minded people or people who shared your interests. I don't think discovery via social media dynamics is a healthy thing. You get all kinds of people, and many of them do not discuss or interact with you in good faith.
I think I have been two pampered by Mastodon. ๐
I am no longer used to normie social media.

I'm almost getting used to having antiseptic poured into my (healing) but open wound every two days. What felt like having lava poured into your wound now feels like semi hot water. Improvement! ๐ฅฒ
