So, this weekend, I played one of the weirder #SNES games, not weird in that it was off the wall, more so that it feels confused.

Donald Duck No Mahou No Boushi (Donald Duck and the Magic Hat) is a 2D platformer in two acts. In the first act, you are doing odd jobs to earn money to buy Daisy a hat, but then the second act hits where Donald goes to a magical kingdom to liberate it from Dark Lord Pete.

The first act sets up the perfect premise for some kind of mini-game collection, and then it hits you with a twist. The thing is, the box art focuses too much on the latter portion of the game, and so you are expecting some kind of magical adventure.

It's not a bad game. The jumping and momentum is a little clumsy, making some of the boss fights a little more frustrating than they needed to be. Not Donald's best outing for this generation, I personally reserve that honour for Quackshot.

Hmmm, the rate things are going...

I might need to dedicate about a week or two to screenshot collection for written up blog posts...

I feel like I am missing something here...

But is it just me, or are there very few imitators of the Mario Party formula?

I am just surprised we haven't seen, like, a Nick Toons or Disney version of the digital board game avec mini game thing from them.

The fact that a Demon Slayer game of this nature exists surprises me even more so!
There was also Sonic Shuffle on the Dreamcast and Pac-Man party on the Wii...

I am ignoring games like Fortune Street in this assessment.

It just seems that Mario just owns this niche of gameplay.

What is not to love about the design of Eevee? They are super cute with a big bushy tail, pointy ears, and a little furry ruff. They just look super cuddly, and I want one or maybe ten.

Ahem, anyway. Besides being so cute that I would invade a micro-nation at their behest, it is a shame that within the context of the game, it's a bit mediocre. Being a first form Pokemon, I wouldn't expect it to have stats to shout about.

Being quite old school Pokemon, I am surprised it can learn attacking moves outside the normal type. But there isn't anything worth picking up to try and transfer to a different form, passing the grass move trail blaze (grass type physical move) to Flareon has some potential, but that's all I can see.

Sadly, it feels like Eevee, within the game, has the purpose of plugging type gaps in your party... We could really do with a normal type evolved form to champion the Normal type! Outside the game, I don't think I could evolve an Eevee, unless I had multiple.

So, why don't we go sequentially through the Eevees.
Which means today, let's talk Vaporeon.
I love Vaporeon!

No. Not like that.

Being one of literal hundreds of water types, I myself quite often default to Vaporeon as my go-to water type due to them being reliable. It is incredibly tanky being in the top 21 for the highest base HP in Gen IX and having really decent special defence. Shame it is let done by middling defences, but the high HP means it is tough to take out in a single hit. It also learns acid armour to mitigate that.

Out of the Gen 1 Eevees, Vaporeon has my favourite design, turning the ruff into a webbed frill, the ears being more like fins, and the wide flat tail, optimal for swimming. This feels like an Eevee that has specifically evolved to be a marine animal.

Did I mention that it can also learn some ice moves? Back in the early generations, that was super important for dealing with the Dragon types!

So, I've been secretly dreading coming back to this one.

Roadrunner on the
#SNES
Death Valley Rally is a game that haunted my childhood. I remember it being quite challenging, but I have learnt that it is, in fact, unforgiving.

I need to remember how to get more lives, as you only start with 3, and there are no continues, and most of those you will haemorrhage on boss fights, even the first boss fight isn't particularly easy!

Despite the game being, somewhat, trash there is clearly some amount of charm and craft put into the game with the animations. I can appreciate it despite the game constantly assaulting me with a lead pipe.

I will endeavour to beat this one over the next week. If I can beat Chuck Rock 2 in a single continue, I can do this!

So, I am curating a list of games to record for my annual Spooptober showcase in October. Specifically, I am looking at horror indie games and open to any suggestions.

I would say that, ideally, the games need to be about 30 minutes to an hour long, something that could be played in a single sitting.

So if you have thoughts on anything I should check out, or if you have made your own thing, and would be fine with me playing and recording a Let's Play of it give me a shout!

(I am not doing this to be lazy, I like the idea of getting suggestions and recommendations from people!).

So, as someone who loves the #Pokemon #Eevee , I sure haven't spoken too much about it.

A point of contention that comes up frequently with me and the wife.
"What is Eevee?"
I mean, is it a Dog? A Cat? A Rabbit? A Fox?!

Typically. I default to the answer that Eevee is Eevee. A precious little bean that needs protecting.

Part of the joy of Eevee is that they essentially embody an idea of childhood potential, Eevee can become all kinds of things depending on conditions around them. Sure, half of them involve shoving a rock in their face.

Every time there is a new generation, I am eagerly waiting in the wings for new Eeveelutions (Best portmanteau), and as I assemble my non-mainstream brand building block Eevees, I'll do a little write up on them, my thoughts and feelings about their design and maybe a little on the stats and functionality... At least through my eyes, I am not into the Pokemon Meta, and I am sure what I say about their battle potential can easily be refuted.

Hmmmm, Doom mapping is going much slower than I wanted today, and I know what the issues are.

Firstly, my lack of knowledge on the tools is one particular road block, it doesn't help that at the moment basic rooms probably take me a little longer than necessary to make.

Secondly, scale, my concept of scale in the editor is pretty warped. 64 units isn't that big, one of my larger rooms, is actually probably on the small side in terms of traditional Doom maps.

Thirdly, I am trying to hard to replicate what feels like semi-real spaces with just the basic assets, I could go to Realm667 and download a bunch of assets and textures, but I know that is a typical excuse I will make to put off working on things, pretending I am working on things by searching for the right add-ons to satisfy a tiny, insignificant thing.

Not going to drop this idea, but I just need to address these hurdles in a productive way.

I think it is time to bust out a pencil and some paper...

There is also the bonus fourth issue.

With the map I am working on, I have in mind a large outdoor space with lots of little sub-buildings within that space and it is trying to figure out the contents and layout of those...

Some parts of the vision are there in my head, other parts are just spaces that are like, "Something should probably go here..."
