Today's #MothOfTheDay might be a bit déja-vu. I showcased this a while back from a first brood but it was a fading specimen, and this second brood specimen is much brighter, and needed showing to the world!

Overhead shot of a 1.5cm triangular moth on a finger. It has very busy markings. Primarily dark chestnut and flecks of white with bright pink or light purple suffusion coming through in vague wavy lines. There are two dark teeth-shaped mark on the wings either side of the abdomen and just below these, nearer the outer edges is a mirror image stigmata which is made of two rectangles of chestnut edged in white. They are joined at one corner so it resembles an angled L, (i.e. the horizontal is straight but the vertical is angled at 45 degrees). It has two thin, wiry antannae

🎵🎵 D'em bones, d'em bones...🎵🎵

Fascinating visit to the small but interesting St Leonard's Church crypt in Hythe yesterday, one of only two ossuaries in the UK. Stacks and stacks of bones and shelves and shelves of skulls, as well as cabinets showing certain jaws and pelvises and other skeletal parts with interesting injuries, malformations or work related influences.

Fridge magnet was a required purchase.

Shelves with neatly arranged skulls. Most are facing forward. Some are slightly angled and one on the bottom shelf is facing left to show a hole. A stack of thousands of limb bones, about 6ft high stretching all the way down the side of a crypt from front to back. There is the odd skull with the stack. Carcina quercana
(Long-horned, flat body)

As the 'quercana' name obviously suggests, its larvae feed on oak. It is common and widespread in the UK.

A small 0.5cm moth on a wooden table. It is a rounded arrowhead / triangular shape with soft corners. It is brown suffused with purple, with a pale and indistinct splodge on the back which resembles a paw print. The wing edge has two distinct yellow sections. Two thin opposing shoulder stripes near the top, and then two opposing rectangular notches about two-thirds down joined by a yellow edge that runs down the rest of the wing, across the bottom and up the other side to the opposing notch. It's like a yellow U shape with two square notches facing inwards at either end. The bottom wing edge (termen) is very fringed. It has two extremely long thing antennae which stretch back and are as long as its body, if not a little more.
