Just as a heads up, if you try to connect with me with an account with no description and a generic title, then I won't accept your request.

By all means try again later once you've added a description or have some history of interaction on Mastodon.

The law on <16yo and social media basically implies that if you are naive or lack critical reading skills then you should not use social media.

I am in full agreement with that view. But I don't think the skills have a great deal to do with age.

A nice article on a library providing a study space for Year 12 students

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/nsw/it-s-approaching-midnight-and-this-24-hour-venue-is-full-of-unsupervised-teens-20250808-p5mlf4.html

Worthwhile mentioning that libraries are funded by local councils. So this is beyond the reach of the councils who's residents would most benefit from a study space away from home.

Also note the similar role of university libraries, as they don't check for a student identity card. Unfortunately universities can't allow under 18yo students to use their free international 'eduroam' wifi, which is frankly ridiculous and the result of shortsighted decisions by both Commonwealth and state governments.

Tried to configure a OpenDNS filtering service on my Fritzbox modem with an ISP which offers IPv6. Don't even bother.

OpenDNS won't let you register a IPv6 subnet. The modem prefers IPv6 DNS servers (because there's often no CGNAT). So the Fritzbox selects the ISP's IPv6 DNS server over the IPv4 OpenDNS server, meaning no filtering occurs.

OpenDNS does allow access to the resolver via IPv6, but this does not work if you have an account with filtering preferences.

To be clear, this issue is with OpenDNS. Not Fritzbox. Not the IPv6 protocol.

#ipv6
