I do fieldwork in some very remote places that have no mobile phone reception and are many hours from civilization. Iβve found this device to be super useful. It will send regular updates of your location via Iridium to a website that others can access and you could also text with it.

Question for #BikeTooter: Iβve had this bike for 15 years but this is the first time Iβve taken it touring. With this setup where I have most of the cargo on the back, would you inflate the rear tire more? If so, by how much more than the front? Thanks.
Iβm sharing this hoping that someone hiking the same route in Norway might see this. Letβs find @alecluhn@mastodon.social!

The first planned migration of an entire country due to climate change is happening! Tuvalu, a Pacific island nation, is at risk of being submerged under rising sea levels. To address this threat, Tuvalu has signed an agreement with Australia to allow 280 Tuvaluans to settle in Australia as permanent residents each year.

This is a serious question. Are folks okay with interacting with me through my Bluesky account? You can see my posts now at @davidho.bsky.social@bsky.brid.gy, but I wonβt see your replies unless you follow @bsky.brid.gy@bsky.brid.gy here.

Hereβs my #introduction.
I am a climate scientist who studies the ocean carbon cycle and marine COβ removal (#mCDR).
Iβm a professor at University of HawaiΚ»i at MΔnoa, Visiting Faculty at Arizona State University, Science Advisor at Carbon Direct, and a co-founder of [C]Worthy.
According to the New York Times, here are my interests.

It's hard for people to visualize removing tons or billions of tons of carbon dioxide (COβ). I propose we talk about COβ removal (#CDR) like a time machine (e.g., this machine will take us back 5 minutes). For example:
Q: How far back in time does planting 100 million trees take us?
A: If one mature tree takes up an average of 25 kg of COβ per year, then 100 million trees will take up 2.5 MtCOβ. That's a time machine that takes us back 33 minutes and 6 seconds in a year. It's not a lot.
