Pinterest laid off its only icon designer as part of their AI-focused layoffs.

My current advice to my mentees in tech is that if you want to distinguish yourself, it's by how deeply you've embraced AI and how much it's made you more productive. Being the voice of opposition to "AI slop" or "work slop" is a great way to volunteer for the next round of "AI productivity gains" driven layoffs.

Most layoffs since the pandemic, worst three months of job growth since the pandemic and now most layoffs since the pandemic.

This is before the worst of Trump’s policies have fully kicked in. This is a good time to minimize unnecessary expenses and stack your savings.

Paying users are getting GPT-4o back after lots of users complained that GPT-5 is a downgrade.

It’s so weird to me that some set of these complaints are about the “personality” of the new model and not its functionality.

I’ve heard people compare AI to the dotcom bubble. This is flawed as the dotcom bubble had a demand problem which AI today does not.

There weren’t enough internet users to support the buildout. Now that there is demand, there are multiple "failed" dotcom ideas that are now successful

* Webvan -> Instacart
* Kozmo -> DoorDash
* Pets .com -> Chewy

AI already has the demand and the question is whether they can bring costs down or further monetize. Or as Cory Doctorow calls it, enshitification.
