@bici@mastodon.social Also for SSDs: if you are going to run them βfullβ and can afford the next size up, get the larger drive and create an empty partition on them to maintain room for TRIM and garbage collection. Spreading writes over more flash also helps with endurance.
But if this is a locally attached Time Machine drive, you probably canβt do that. MacOS will want to format the whole thing as APFS and then it will use the whole thing. (1/2)

If you want to go larger, Iβve been happy with Western Digital external HDDs. I avoid Hitachi as several years ago I had a Hitachi Touro and the USB would be full speed and then downgrade itself to slower spec USB after awaking from an OS sleep. The WD has never done this. (2/2)
