Bill Plein🌶@bici@mastodon.social Also for SSDs: if you are going to run them “full” and can afford the next size up, get the larger drive and create an empty partition on them to maintain room for TRIM and garbage collection. Spreading writes over more flash also helps with endurance.
But if this is a locally attached Time Machine drive, you probably can’t do that. MacOS will want to format the whole thing as APFS and then it will use the whole thing. (1/2)
Bill Plein🌶If you want to go larger, I’ve been happy with Western Digital external HDDs. I avoid Hitachi as several years ago I had a Hitachi Touro and the USB would be full speed and then downgrade itself to slower spec USB after awaking from an OS sleep. The WD has never done this. (2/2)
Bill Plein🌶@bici@mastodon.social SSDs. For that small of capacity, go with SSD. If you are on a 2TB HDD budget (not judging) see if you can find used HDD in a larger capacity or dirt cheap 2TB used.
