A small white and green two bogie, three (or six) door tram rolls through the street of Melbourne on a sunny day, the greenery of the botanical gardens fills the background. The tram is new enough to be metal bodied, yet old enough to have folding doors, with a typical pantograph picking up power from the overhead line. Tram tracks criss cross the road, as tracks go to and from various areas toward the city centre.

My inner track geek just had to hold everyone up to take this pic of a fun formation at Southern Cross station in Melbourne, in which some dual gauge (5’3”/4’8½”) track swaps common rail sides halfway through a turnout.

A photo of the railway track formation mentioned in the post, the station is shaded under an overall roof, but some sun is shining through onto the tracks, there are four tracks between two platforms with the closer of the two inner tracks being the dual gauge one where the interesting rail swap occurs.

Had lunch by the river with my sister yesterday, there was a mosquito.
