Reasonably sure Mastodon peeps like libraries and might like a peek at this wowzer I stepped into today.

A look inside the Biblioteca Vasconcelos in Mexico City. There are columns of bookshelves seeming suspended at various levels from the ceiling with walkways connecting and that keep going into the far distance. Light from glass skylights many stories up and interior lighting are throughout. On the bottom floor, slightly lower than the camera vantage is the skeleton of a whale

I'm a compulsive documenter, so there'll be #Travel #photography I hope to get my fill of #Japan and share a slightly different perspective - not just touristy (you'll get that too, don't worry).
Last time I was here in Japan with my partner was 2016 for 2 weeks (kids stayed behind - with partners visiting parents, in Pittsburgh). We have all so wanted to come (back) here.

A re- or perhaps de- introduction especially for so many new followers - I'm back to my usual beat in Pittsburgh; done with an amazing time in #Japan 👆🏽

Oh hey - found an archived version of the #Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article from 2010 about my #KitchenChemistry course.

Somewhat flattering article I'll add (even if I'm being shameless and self-promoting). I do hope to keep at this for #SciComm and Outreach even if offering the course has gotten harder. Was a lot of work but fun (and students' joy & learning & enthusiasm kept me going those days- well, till 2017)

So we do have to find an electrician to put in a 240v line and receptacle in the garage, but in the meantime,
Wow we're filling up the car tank/battery via a regular 110v plug point in the kitchen near the garage

(Just got an #EV last week)

Kid1 showed me her crocheted (that's a verb right?) jellyfish and asked if I wanted one, then casually made one for me after dinner 😭

I never really did an #introduction, just jumped in and never went back to Xitter.
A bit of an explanation now - I've transplanted to #Kobe #Japan from #Pittsburgh for my #ProfLife 4 month Fall sabbatical - with my family!
We #Homeschool our kids, so this worked out well (next yr Kid1 will head to college - last opportunity for this sort of adventure, so I snatched it). Wish me luck!
