Just imagine...in a few months there are going to be thousands of old retired people like me trying to learn linux because their perfectly good old computers can't run Win11. And from what I hear it's probably best they don't. I'm f'ing DONE with Microsoft. But this is going to be a nightmare for a lot of people helping their parents or grandparents get the hang of things. Luckily I found an old-timey-1990s-looking interactive web tutorial that is just the thing to ease into it. To my surprise it turns out having been a DOS user decades ago (didn't even have Windows!) is coming in handy once again.

So Win10 support is ending soon so I did a trial run of Ubuntu to see how it feels. Mostly things ran ok. Little bit of a learning curve with the UI. Large learning curve for LibreOffice. Then I start reading the docs and discover there is no firewall. I look for Linux firewalls and get confused immediately because the apps sound like they are their own Linux distros. And it looks like I would have to learn a lot of command line stuff. On the ok side of things, I did find apps for things I use such as Plex, Private Internet Access (VPN), and my printer loaded up just fine. I'm too old for this shit

Ok I've got the firewall figured out and found the Ubuntu documentation for it. I was confused by the UI documentation. Problem solved.

No civilian needs this kind of firepower. Yes, I'm a veteran, I've shot all kinds of U.S. and foreign military weapons of all calibers. I've owned guns for sport, hunting, and self defense.

When I worked in DOD I recall a weird time when a wave of dick measuring swept through my office when all the civilian men were buying ludicrous assault weapons for no reason than to feel like their sense of manhood was fulfilled for each other's approval. Nobody needed those guns for anything. It was a result of a uniquely American, manufactured gun worship that advertising has successfully linked into many men's sense of their own maleness. Kind of pathetic in my opinion.

@pixelpusher220@dmv.community They would have to consume prions, whether they were in brain or other CNS matter, or perhaps meat that had been contaminated with it, or, ref the research I noted, even in the environment. Which is a little scary to think about.

@pixelpusher220@dmv.community Let me just clarify there are a short list of prion diseases. The one in the video is due to a genetic disorder, not from eating anything. But I guess if someone literally ate the brain matter from a diseased person, yeah, the prions would be there and could start converting one's own normal prions into the mutant state. Yuck

We all know Trump is in the Epstein investigation but I don't want to believe that of the thousand or so FBI people they had combing through the files to look for names, not one of them would turn whistleblower immediately if they found something in there substantiating and corroborating the claims that Trump raped Epstein/Maxwell's trafficked girls. There's no way that out of all the people who've seen these files by now, not one of them would have blown that whistle, especially after living through the total subversion and humiliation of the agency.

Trump is doing all this tariff shit, FOR NO REASON. He's insane and he's damaging what was an economy humming along pretty well until Jan 20. Best recovery of any country after the pandemic. All that is gone. No reason for it other than Trump being a deranged and very stupid old adjudicated rapist, 34-count convicted felon, and pedophile.

Side note: #ICE must be destroyed and #DHS must be disbanded.
