According to autocorrect, I have pest viral illness and brain of hog
Sounds about right
When I'm not here pestering people about viral illness, I am generally rolling in the mud, eating, or asking a friendly farmer to scratch my back with a stick

NB: Please turn off my boosts, unless you would like to see a bunch of US politics, art, global good news, and generally stuff about people trying to make the world better
I don't do many original posts. It's not that I don't have a life. It's that I am severely ill, and mastodon is where I come to rest my brain. I do comment on other people's posts a lot; it is an easier way for me to interact
I don't know if it was pre- All This, or magically post-, or in an alternate universe where the pandemic and the coup never happened
But I was not so sick, and travel was possible, and everything was so beautiful
I was in a small California town, visiting a friend
Golden sunlight on conifers. Thinking of taking up painting
A small wildfire that was just about out, and clean air blown in
Catching a ride with my friend, leaning my head on the glass and looking out the window, looking at the scenery and interesting things (a swing set designed for disabled adults). Literally purring to myself, I was so happy
Tiny smalltown library, with parking lot where they gave out the town mail, plus a few people selling swap meet / bake sale type items
I was wearing a mask, because immune compromised. But no one else was, and I wasn't afraid for them, only slightly concerned
I am starting a Positive Futures zoom book club! πβοΈβ΅ππ ππ³
We will read fictional depictions of positive future societies, and talk about what we like and don't like in them, and how we get there from here βοΈπ§
1st book is A Psalm for the Wild-Built, a short and cheery novel by Becky Chambers. Non-binary main character! Tree houses! Bicycle powered camper vans! Tea!
Please let me know if you want to join us π
How often would you want to meet? Weekly, twice a month, monthly? I'm thinking Thursday afternoon or evening Pacific time, if that works for people. Maybe starting in January?!
Updates:
I lost internet for a couple weeks, and have been relying on my very limited cell phone data, which slowed down implementation of this plan. Internet is now bac,k but not completely stable. Working on it!
I have medical stuff in the a.m., Pacific time, 7 days a week. I'm not available before 3pm Pacific π
I would love to have an asynchronous chat component! Maybe when we meet on zoom someone would be willing to take notes, and then we could continue the conversation on Mastodon?
This is probably the best piece I've ever read on how journalists have reported on long covid, and how their reports has affected the lives of people living with long covid.
Don't pass this piece up.
' We [journalists] are not neutral actors, reporting on the world at a remove; we also create that world through our choices, and we must do so with purpose, care and compassion. '
'I witnessed almost every publication that I once held in esteem become complicit in normalizing a level of death once billed as incalculable. It was galling, crushing work that wrecked my faith in journalism and its institutions.'
