If the progress pride flag isn't showing properly on my display name, then here just to make things absolutely clear: black lives matter, LGBTQIA+ rights, trans rights
In Nazi-occupied Europe during the Second World War, the resistance would freak the fascists out by secretly painting the "V" symbol everywhere: on roads, on walls, carved into stone etc. If a Nazi entered a bar, someone would tap under the table with V in morse code. The Nazis had no idea who was doing it and they couldn't arrest the whole bar.
"...the (Nazi) occupier, by seeing this sign, always the same, infinitely repeated, (would) understand that he is surrounded, encircled by an immense crowd of citizens eagerly awaiting his first moment of weakness, watching for his first failure."
If LLMs were actually intelligent, they would be able to just learn from each other and would get better all the time. But what actually happens if LLMs only learn from each other is their models collapse and they start spouting gibberish.
LLMs depend entirely on copying what humans write because they have no ability to create anything themselves. That's why they collapse when you remove their access to humans.
There is no intelligence in LLMs, it's just repackaging what humans have written without their permission. It's stolen human labour.
Imagine a stranger spreads lies about you. They tell everyone you're doing horrible stuff, the worst crimes imaginable. They make videos, articles, livestreams, all pushing the same lies designed to make everyone hate and fear you.
Would you "just block them"?
What happens when other people don't block them? When other people believe them, follow them, share their lies?
What if this turns into real life abuse? If someone attacks you or your family?
This is what vulnerable minorities face because of badly-moderated social media:
If you like silent films of the 1920s, or if you want to try watching something different, I've edited together some modern Creative Commons music along with the visuals of a couple of public domain silent films:
Wings (1927) - The first ever winner of the Oscar for Best Picture, an excellent epic war/adventure/romance story set in the First World War
The Phantom of the Opera (1925) - Gothic horror film which began Universal's "monster" series, it sticks fairly close to Gaston Leroux's famous novel of the same name about the Paris Opera House in the 1880s
This is going to sound a bit weird, but it might be a good idea to purchase a shortwave radio if you haven't got one already. They're quite cheap and small, you can buy one and store it long term just in case.
Shortwave is the only way to receive news and information internationally without relying on the internet or satellite. It might be a useful fallback to receive news from the outside world if your country's media and internet are ever restricted or closed down.
If you've never used one, it's like a normal radio but the frequencies reach around the world. Every country used to have its own station.
We need to talk about Mastodon gGmbH. They are the main developers of Mastodon's server software & official mobile apps, they own mastodon.social and Mastodon's trademarks. Their behaviour is inexplicably going in two totally opposite directions.
A couple of years ago they started promoting mastodon.social from the official apps while hiding other servers, causing their server to grow while other servers shrank. Mastodon.social is currently about 28.7% of the active Fediverse and growing.
For comparison, another major server mas.to is just 1.2% of the active Fediverse. Mastodon.social is about twenty-four times bigger.
Bluesky corporation is now deliberately hosting and verifying dozens of Trump regime accounts including White House, Homeland Security / ICE, Department of War, JD Vance etc. All of these accounts without exception are being just used to post fascist and racist propaganda:
"Waffles" refers to a conversation she had yesterday, I've attached the screenshot. It depicted Bluesky users as weirdos unreasonably criticising opponents, comparing them to pancake fans inexplicably attacking waffle fans.
When someone asked if she would ban an alleged transphobe, she replied "WAFFLES".
Relying on individuals blocking bad accounts does not work in the real world. Here's a concrete example:
A black grandfather played with his white grandchildren. His family videoed it and shared this wholesome scene.
Far right racists stole the video, removed the context and claimed it was a paedophile grooming victims. They posted their edited version and a far right moron with over a million racist followers shared the video.
The black grandfather is now living in fear, but the social network (Musk's X) won't take the posts down and the police claim that sharing the video isn't a crime.
