Anyway my opinion is:

If someone doesn’t vibe with you, don’t be afraid to mute them and assert your boundaries. It is okay to say β€œI am not going to argue this with you.” It’s okay to say nothing at all even. If they continue, block them.

Don’t make a spectacle of it.

Just do it.

This goes for anywhere, anytime, anyplace.

Boundaries piss some people off. Well. That’s their problem. If they hate you for asserting a boundary, that means they believe their will is more important than your boundaries. You do NOT want nor need the friendship of these people.

My brain goes into fix-it mode on this but there is no fix because you’re dealing with two groups who believe they’re right and the other is wrong, and you aren’t going to change anyone’s mind on anything, and β€œmeet in the middle” compromise genuinely doesn’t work very well here. So I kinda sit here like β€œwhy any of this.”

(Not going into fix-it mode is something I am working on in therapy, something something raised to need to fix everything because that was my job)

Also both sides get sooooo aggressive about it ngl

One side because they can’t emotionally regulate and are asking others to do it for them

The other because they see it as being compelled what to do for… acting as they see it, normal

And it has never been different

It’s kinda one of the more mid things about Fedi ngl

Some things never change on Fedi. CW discourse is one of them.

It has been… almost ten years and the discussion generates more heat than light.

And a lot of resentment.

If you’re curious the board is 7.6mm thick and it carries mostly DRAM signals

Apparently for inspecting DRAM modules

I still find it wild they developed a 124-layer process for PCB manufacture because some stupid AI-related board needed it, and the process costs as much as a car per board

Hey Fedi,

If you would like hardware of any kind designed or built, I can do so. I also reverse engineer existing hardware to create replacement boards or basic housings for otherwise unavailable parts.

I work across the full stack, from firmware through PCB design and external hardware.

My rates:

Estimate: First 2-3 hours free, $25/hr subsequent hours. Usually, only complex projects require more than 2-3 hours of estimation.

Simple circuits (2-layer, limited components, no RF, no high-speed, no power conversion beyond LDOs, one revision): from $150.

Complex boards: $75/hr, includes schematic + layout.

Reverse engineering: $100/hr.

PCB assembly: $30/hr + PCB and stencil cost (or you send PCBs and stencils to me). I’ll use your provider of choice. Note I can’t do BGA or leadless IC packages that require reflow due to equipment limitations.

Housings: Rate negotiable. I can produce basic, functional enclosures and parts using FDM printing, with small resin prints soon to be available.

Product assembly: negotiable depending on volume, project scope, and complexity.

Firmware: $75/hr.

Notes:

I work best with clear requirements and written scope; informal β€œfigure it out as we go” projects will be billed hourly.

Projects that exceed a single-engineer scope will be billed to include additional engineers at market rates.

More complex projects may incur additional costs due to increased engineering effort. These will be discussed prior to work.

Specialised hardware beyond my standard lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyser, bench supply, function generator, etc.) requiring purchase will be billed to the customer.

Change orders will be billed based on the stage of the process.

My workday availability is Monday-Friday, usually around 11am-7pm (Pacific Time). Weekend and holiday work available by arrangement at increased rates, at my discretion.

Discounted rates may be available for clearly non-commercial, non-profit, or personal hobbyist projects, at my discretion.
