I don't do horror or misery porn. Not because I can't handle it but because the way I'm wired I don't get any positive feedback from it. Same with rollercoasters btw. So at best it makes me sad for no reason.
I have never watched an anime or played a JRPG that held my attention for more than 30 minutes. Not sure what the issue is other than I sometimes feel like a fraud for calling myself a geek when I've not finished a single FF game... 😅

Having your party member be kidnapped is such a bullshit writing trope btw.
It's one of the few things of BG3 writing I don't like at all, but at least the writers made it impossible for the game to pick your love interest.
Because that would have been extra annoying and everyone would have downloaded a mod to avoid it I feel.

Speaking of Baldur's Gate 3, I am honestly impressed it still after two years is the most played single player game on Steam.
That's what quality looks like, I guess? I also assume every single AAA published are still banging their head against the wall wondering HOW when it's no loot boxes or battle royal mode in it...
