There are two animals in this picture.

At first glance this looks like a smiling dog on its back with crazy eyes. A closer look shows the eyes belong to a cat, also on its back, with its head snuggled close enough they read visually as a single entity. This photo is not mine, and was found uncredited online - if you know the original source I’m happy to give credit.

The advent of LLMs masquerading as artificial intelligence has made the notion of an absurdly powerful computer, constructed at great expense, and given unseemly resources to answer a meaningful question, only to return the answer “42”, feel more and more prophetic.
