First Try!†

I wanted a box for the goodies I plan to give out on Halloween‑. As said beforeβΉ‹, I likely could've bought a box but…

I stole USPS's small flat rate box layout as it only needs one strip of glue to stay closed. Final boxes will be orange and only one sheet.

Shapes are Font Awesome.

† OK, so I forgot to flip the shapes and missed the dashed lines for the lid wings but otherwise, I did good!

‑ Nothing like needing a distraction and doing it in August.

I ordered too much 111lb† 12x12" paper in a color I'll probably never use again to make some custom laser-cut paper boxes for Halloween goodies, even though there's probably similar-size unadorned ones I could've ordered for slightly‑ less.

But that'd be less fun. Probably.

We'll see when I get to making the box and find out if my design works.

† wat. 65 and 110 I get, but 111?
‑ At least $14, maybe.

health

Something in/nearg right ear won't stop vibrating arbitrarily since a around a week and a half ago. It's giving me a headache that doesn't care about ibuprofen and "Sudafed" (decongestant) didn't seem to help either (if it's a Eustachion issue).

I dunno what started it but it's mighty annoying and killing my focus.

Got an appointment but it's next week. If it doesn't get better maybe I can still get one of those "emergency" slots and move it up.

Also not helping: It's 99Β°F/37.2Β°C out.

"Only $179 more and you get free shipping!"

Shipping: "$22"

Mmm, nope, I think I'm good.

What I wanted to do: work out a paper box design for Halloween.

What I did instead: set up a "new" server that's just an old one but on a new VPS instance with more RAM.

Ionos is fine if you don't need to touch anything, but the are pretty bad about upgrading/resizing VPSes.

The old one was "legacy" so it couldn't be changed regardless. It was suggested even the new ones wouldn't upgrade seamlessly.

I can add more RAM to my home NAS easier than their VPSes, and that's
just wrong. πŸ˜‘πŸ˜‘

I don't actually feel too bad about running a couple apps on what I thought was an outdated web framework, since it got yet another update this year.

It's all just bug fixes, dep updates, etc. but that's far better than nothing!

Bootstrapping new certs is a PITA. Like, yes, Let's Encrypt but nginx complains a shitload about lack of certs in host definitions I want to have because they're SSL...

It could just generate a temporary self-signed thing or whatever, but noooo.

And if I try to do that myself, it complains that other stuff is missing and it's like pulling on a loose thread: soon I'll have no shirt!

Pluses: Ionos has bossa nova for their hold music.

Minuses: All the plans have really stupid pricing like "$4 /month for 12 months with a 3-year term" (paid up front, of course)

Got arbitrarily followed by an app trying to reinvent Ko-fi, but "for the Fediverse."

If I don't get donations for the random stuff I do (even from locals), why would I get it from international randos via a fedi thing?

Plus, it doesn't say how one gets paid out. If it's just PayPal again, is that really better than Ko-fi?

--

The real issue, though, is most could use more money right now. (You know, except Gates, Bezos, etc.) I'm doing OK, so why give to me when they need it themselves more?

Obviously need is different from like or want, so I absolutely wouldn't mind if locals tossed me a few $ because of my food truck directory project or others for $funRandomThing I did.
