I took one of my all time favorite photos at a Waffle House

View from a booth at Waffle House just as the sun is rising. It’s near the beach and you can see palm trees through the windows. The condensation on the windows is golden with the sunlight. This is the purest form of Waffle House

Ochre is fun, not only does it show up (mixed to varying intensities) in cave art, it also shows up in burials dating all the way back to 300,000 years ago. It’s an iron oxide pigment and it’s relatively easy to make. My neighbor growing up had a big bowl of it in a room filled with artifacts they’d been given or they’d dug up themselves and you could dip your finger into it and it would be stained for days

A Neanderthal found this rock, thought it looked like a face, and put a little dot for a nose. We still have their fingerprint. How can you look at that and not feel split open

Rock shaped like a human face. It is a long oval. At the top are two depressions that look like eyes and at the bottom is one that looks like a mouth. An ochre dot has been placed right in the center like a nose. On the right are two images of the dot. One is how it looks in reality, a reddish smidge. The second is how it looks on a scan, and the whorls of a fingerprint are clearly visible

Do you ever think about handprints in cave paintings and start crying

Cave painting of several hands. The paintings are made by placing your hand on the cave wall and blowing pigment into them with a straw. The pigment in this case is black. Many of these hand prints have shortened or missing fingerprints; there are a few different interpretations, some very silly (ritual amputation) but some like the top left one are almost unmistakably made by someone making a different shape with their hand, not someone missing fingers Hand painting similar to the first photo made by putting your hand on a cave wall and spraying it with pigment from a straw. This paint looks like a dark ochre. The hand and arm are long and slender. This one is from a cave in Borneo and was dated to approx 40,000 years ago Cave painting from Chauvet cave. Someone approx 30,000 years ago dipped their hand in ochre and pressed it to the wall, leaving a dark red handprint. The pinky finger is visibly crooked. You can see this same handprint elsewhere in the cave. I’m not having emotions about this individual person we have multiple records of you are The cave of hands, in Santa Cruz, Argentina,a wall of dozens of handprints in various layers made at various ties. The colors of ante from white to red ti brown.some are placed on the naked rock, some spots have been painted white before the hand was placed and the pigment sprayed around it. It’s riotous and gorgeous. Hands of people who have been dead for seven thousand reaching out to us now.

Happy Thursday from the coziest boy

Shadow curled up on my unmade bed with his head resting on a large furry pillow. He is large and extremely pear shaped and there is a stuffed animal octopus right behind him. He looks cozy and he is falling asleep and I was so jealous because I had to leave for work

Disney’s secret experiments with ai have reportedly been a comical disaster. It’s bringing down the mouse
