Ochre is fun, not only does it show up (mixed to varying intensities) in cave art, it also shows up in burials dating all the way back to 300,000 years ago. Itβs an iron oxide pigment and itβs relatively easy to make. My neighbor growing up had a big bowl of it in a room filled with artifacts theyβd been given or theyβd dug up themselves and you could dip your finger into it and it would be stained for days

A Neanderthal found this rock, thought it looked like a face, and put a little dot for a nose. We still have their fingerprint. How can you look at that and not feel split open
