excerpt from Bowditch's Practical Navigator, in which he writes: "it was therefore a very criminal inattention Of Moore, in publishing [the table of declinations of the sun] so incorrectly in most of his work; for be reckoning the year 1800 as leap-year, he had made an error of 23 miles in some of the numbers. This error was the cause of losing two vessles to the northward of Turk's Island, and bringing others into serious difficulties"
